Dental Cleanings

What is it?

A professional teeth cleaning is conducted by a dental hygienist or by your dentist. They use a combination of instruments to remove stains & tartar from your teeth above and below the gum line.

Why is it Important?

Routine professional teeth cleanings are important to prevent tooth decay, gum disease and tooth loss. Not only are cleanings important to maintain healthy teeth and gums, but they also contribute to preventing diseases that affect the rest of the body such as heart disease, strokes, respiratory infections, diabetes complications, etc.

Your oral health is an important factor in your overall health. When tartar remains on the teeth, the bacteria found within it is seen as a foreign infection such as a cold or a flu. Your immune system is automatically alerted to help fight off this infection. Since this is an ongoing battle, teeth cleanings help keep everything in check. However when your immune system is constantly activated, this can lead to diseases that affect the rest of the body.

If left for too long, some of the damage to your oral health can become irreversible. That’s why it’s so important to ensure you stay on track with your routine dental cleanings.
